I have been at it for several years and starting to see some good results. A few more of my thoughts on the subject.
Your sites and projects needs to be a niche that you enjoy. If you do not like the topic you will not want to work on the site and the site will not go anywhere.
- Be prepared for the long haul. It can take years and a little luck to rank for popular competitive keywords.
- Ranking in Search Engines is like a game of golf. You need to be steady and consistent, not really many home runs here. People will tell you is easy money, usually when they are selling you something.
- Focus on fewer, higher quality sites. I spoke with a guy today and the topic of making money on the web came up. He thought he was going to get rich from domain names. He purchased 1,300 of them, at around $10/each that is around 13,000 a year in registration / carrying fees. He is now letting them expire.
- In my opinion the black hat trickery stuff will not get you anywhere for long. Focus on creating high quality value added sites. The best sites take time, energy, and a unique insight.
It is a fun challenge, but be prepared for work.
