Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you first get involved with Joomla? Do you provide any Joomla coding or development services?
Zeegers: I'm a 29 year young IT Consultent, born and raised in Belgium. I got involved with Joomla through my job, when I was told to build a website for ourselves. As it turned out, Joomla made it easier than I thought and I sort of fell in love with the CMS from that moment on.
I don't provide any coding or development services, myself. Most of the coding / development I do is through my employer, I prefer to do other things in my free time, like blogging.
Q: We see you run several Joomla Blogs. What are they and does each site have a specific niche? Do you find it difficult to manage with several blogs?
Zeegers: The first one is Joomla & More, which focuses on offering tutorials, mostly for Joomla. In general, it targets people new to Joomla. I also started Joomlareporter, which was meant to target the Joomla! Professional. I've got to admit, though, that I'm neglecting Joomlareporter a bit. Personally, I find it hard to maintain more than one blog, especially if they cover the same theme.
Q: Were do you get ideas for new blog posts? What topics do you enjoy writing about most?
Zeegers: Most of the posts are inspired by using Joomla myself everyday. I get my ideas by using Joomla but also by listening to what's going on in the Joomla Community. If I'd want to I could cover much more ground but I simply lack the time!
The topics I like writing about the most, are the ones that solve problems for other people. It's very rewarding to see that something you write, can help so many people sort out their own problems. I also enjoy writing on Joomla! "Problems" from time to time, but I try not to overdo those as the reactions can be fierce.
Q: Have any of your blog posts caused any controversy? Do you think this was a good thing?
Zeegers: It has happened a few times, to be honest. Most of the times, I considered it to be a good thing because - I'll admit - sometimes I want to started an argument in the Community. When I see people arguing over what I wrote, in a polite matter, I think I've done my part. I can only think of one controversial post of which I'd wish I could unwrite it.
Q: What was your experience at Joomla and Beyond 2013? What did you learn that you did not expect to?
Zeegers: I didn't attend Joomla and Beyond 2013 (I wish I could have) but I did enjoy the videos that were published afterwards. But nothing really surprised me, this year.
Q: What do you think the future holds for Joomla?
Zeegers: I am not sure what the future holds, but I hope that Joomla catches up on the trend of simplifying the use of the software. Personally I'd like to see a lite version of Joomla emerge, if possible.
Q: Anything else you would like to add?
Zeegers: I'd like to give fellow (potential) bloggers the advice that it's okay to be critical of Joomla, as long as it's constructive.
